Our Object:
The advancement of Christ's Kingdom among boys and the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.
B.B. History:
The Boys' Brigade was founded by William Alexander Smith in the year 1883 in Maryhill - a suburb of Glasgow (approx. 3 miles from our church hall in Knightswood!).
The B.B. was born out of the need for William Smith (later Sir William Smith) to find some Christian based activities that his Sunday school boys could take part in during their leisure hours.
It was a concept which was to capture the imagination of boys and their leaders for years to come.
The 237th Glasgow B.B. first met in January 1929 and continued until May 2008.
We celebrated our 75th Anniversary in 2004.
By 2008 the falling numbers and changing interests of those attending prompted the remaining staff to re-appraise the future of youth work within our congregation. After 79 years of service to the young men of Knightswood it was a very difficult decision to disband our BB. Company however the staff believe that a new approach to youth work is necessary in order to meet the needs of the youth in our area.
